Community Education Courses provide an opportunity for the community to learn on a variety of topics. Most of the instructors come from our faculty, local ministers, or community educators. Each instructor has committed to Morthland College's founding principles: Tradition, Heritage, Wisdom, and Christ. Classes will meet at the Administration Offices at 210 E. Main Street, West Frankfort, Illinois.

All Fall 2011 courses cost $60.00 and can be payable by cash, check or credit card. Scholarships are available to senior adults (65+): Seniors may either receive ONE FREE Community Education Course per semester, or HALF OFF for every course per semester. Tuesday Evenings, October 25, Nov 1, 8, 15, 29, Dec 6 (No Classes Thanksgiving week)

*ECO C121 Political Economics, Dr. Alex Tokarev, PhD (6:30-7:30 PM)
Do you ever wonder why some nations are so rich and others are so poor? What are the key factors causing long economic slumps? Does capitalism run on greed or does the market encourage virtue? Can running a deficit stimulate growth? You can acquire the tools to help you find the answers to these and many more questions. It will also increase your understanding of current events and political debates. Our course will foster your worthy ambitions to serve God and your fellow men- in terms of developing critical thinking skills and learning more about human nature, and political action.

*LIT C331 A Treasury of Children's Literature, Susan Lewis, MFA (6:30-7:30 PM)
This course is an introduction to children's literature, including fables, fairy tales, poetry, picture books, fantasy, and realistic fiction. It examines the needs and interests of children and emphasizes the value of this type of literature. It also focuses on methods developed to determine high-quality literature, both classical and contemporary, from various genres.

REL C216 Spiritual Warfare – The Call to Arms, Rabbi Moshe Laurie (6:30 – 7:30 PM)
The course will examine spiritual warfare and what scripture says about the Christian's responsibility in this area. Part I is not necessary for Part II of this two part series.

REL C 121 The Life of Christ, Bobby Samuel, MA (6:30 – 7:30)
The course examines the life of Christ from His supernatural birth, commission, ministry, death, and resurrection. The study will draw from scripture throughout the New Testament. People taking this course should expect that their understanding of Christ should grow as should their faith.

RELC110 –Making Your Marriage Sizzle - God's Way!, Randy Carney, PhD (6:30-7:30 PM)
The LOVING Way to a Successful Marriage: Six Keys to Marital Bliss is suitable for marriages in various stages – anywhere from Newlyweds to Marriage Veterans. In this course, you will discover how to: Improve your relationship with your spouse, children and in-laws; turn your negative differences into positive connections; improve your communication skills; delight yourself with physical and spiritual intimacy; discover and meet each other's greatest needs; and see that a seeming contradiction can benefit you many times over.

*HEA C105 Introduction to Autism, Jocelyn Turner, MSEd (6:30 - 7:30 PM)
Designed for families, educators, and service providers of individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, this course will focus on understanding the pathology of the condition, behaviors, therapies, and environments that best support this population. Presenters include: Jocelyn Turner, MS Ed, covering basic pathology, research and sensory integration; Stephanie Willis Thompson, discussing a parent's perspective; Glenda Raby, covering an educator's perspective; Krystal Cooper, ABA specialist; and personal testimony from individuals with autism.
